Nicolas Freschi, Senior Associate at Gabel Associates, supports various energy-related matters including those related to large-scale data analysis, renewable energy and policy research, and energy modeling.
He frequently conducts research on various policy issues, including topics such as state renewable portfolio standards, renewable energy certificate (SREC/REC) markets, energy efficiency standards, and the social cost of carbon.
Mr. Freschi has experience in quantitative economic and energy market modeling, using a combination of external and internal tools. He has created Monte Carlo simulations of energy market scenarios as well as modeled economic impact, dispatching, and capacity auction bids for a variety of energy resources across various energy regions.
Mr. Freschi is also versed in modern data tools, such as Python, that allow for the consolidating, management, and analysis of large data sets. This includes iteratively testing and refining models and selecting and implementing data visualizations. Using Python, Mr. Freschi has created interactive dashboards for power plant operations data, analyzed over 50 million nodal energy prices, and trained a machine learning algorithm to predict the price of energy, among various other internal and client-facing projects.
Through his previous role as a quantitative analyst for a solar and battery storage company, Mr. Freschi gained experience in operating battery assets in PJM’s frequency regulation market – providing him with an understanding of energy storage and wholesale energy markets as well as experience reviewing energy systems and markets on a second-by-second timescale.
