Paul Antony, Senior Associate, has more than 12 years of experience in the energy sector, with extensive knowledge of bilateral markets in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). He provides support on a range of issues relating to wholesale power markets with a focus on resource adequacy, transmission, generator interconnection, and market development.
As part of the firm’s RTO Division, Mr. Antony undertakes timely monitoring and reporting of RTO activities and offers strategic solutions for clients by offering input and analysis on a wide range of energy issues in relation to wholesale power market rules, processes, and policy-related issues. Mr. Antony provides expert support primarily on Southwest Power Pool (SPP) matters and the developing SPP Markets+, and engages in several committees and working groups in both organizations. He also provides support on matters in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region.
Prior to joining Gabel Associates, Mr. Antony held roles at Xcel Energy as a Wholesale Account Analyst and Senior Accountant. His experience included managing wholesale power contracts, business segment financial analysis, customer relations, and RTO settlement services. By engaging with cross-disciplinary groups, he also led the development of distribution wheeling agreements for wholesale transactions, a fuel cost pricing alert product for customer awareness, and price sensitivity trade-off products for the optimal utilization of power supply options. Prior to his tenure at Xcel Energy, Mr. Antony worked as a financial and market analyst in the mining sector.
Mr. Antony has a decade of service with the United States Army and Army Reserve as a Psychological Operations Team Leader where he led small-unit teams providing counter insurgency operations support to combat units. His service included combat deployments to Iraq in 2004-05 and Afghanistan in 2007-08. In Afghanistan, he devised and executed operational plans utilizing open-source and human intelligence to enhance key leader engagements resulting in increased collaboration with US forces and active local resistance against enemy elements.
